Pool robot repair: 3 common solutions

In this article, you’ll discover how to solve the following problems

  • Pool robot does not start or turn on
  • Pool robot stops
  • Pool robot stops after a few seconds
  • Pool robot stops after a few minutes
  • Pool robot does not complete the cleaning cycle

These are the most common problems when it comes to pool robot repair. Today we will discover together the best solutions to solve every issue.

This guide is valid for any robot: Dolphin, Zodiac, Aquabot, BWT, Hayward.

Repairing a pool robot is a process divided into three fundamental phases:

  1. Diagnosis
  2. Power supply unit
  3. Power cable
  4. Traction and pressure
  5. Motor unit
  6. Repair
  7. Pool testing

1. Diagnosis

It is important to note that pool robots are designed to perform a self-diagnosis during the first seconds of operation, checking that all components are functioning correctly.

When an anomaly is detected, even a minor one, the robot stops within the first few seconds of operation.

To identify the reason why it stops after a few seconds or minutes without completing the cleaning cycle, it is necessary to consider the following elements:

  • Power supply unit
  • Power cable
  • Traction and pressure
  • Motor unit

Normally, pool robot repair centers, such as MetodoBlu.com, use analyzers that, through dedicated software, detect the fault by reading errors from the robot’s electronic board.

This procedure allows for targeted, fast, and safe repairs. For more information on how to entrust us with the repair of your pool robot without worries and with maximum peace of mind, visit our page and book home pickup of your robot within 24 hours, with a 100% free quote.

Power Supply Unit

The power supply units of Dolphin, Zodiac, Aquabot, BWT, and Hayward robots normally deliver a voltage between 24 V and 30 V. The first step is to verify the correct output voltage using an electrical tester set to direct current.

To do this, you need to identify the output pins and check that the voltage matches the value indicated on the power supply label, usually 29 V.

Note: in some Zodiac power supply models, after 3 seconds without detecting any connection to the motor unit, the device enters protection mode. For this reason, the time available to measure the voltage is limited.

Voltage verification is the first step in ruling out the power supply unit as the cause of the malfunction. However, it is also important to consider that the unit may not be delivering enough power for the robot to operate correctly.

Power Cable

The power cable supplies the current required from the power supply unit to the pool robot. If it is damaged, it may cause the robot to shut down unexpectedly or prevent it from starting.

To verify proper operation, if a swivel is present, it is first necessary to carefully open it and check that there are no water infiltrations inside.

Then, with the same care, unscrew the connector connected to the motor unit and remove it, in order to inspect the cable entering the motor unit.

Using the same tester set to direct current, turn on the power supply unit with the cable connected and check that the same output voltage from the power supply is present on the white and black pins.

If the voltage matches the expected value, it means that both the cable and the power supply unit are functioning correctly. Otherwise, the robot’s problem lies in this stage.

Traction and Pressure

Traction refers to the gears, bearings, pulleys, and brushes, meaning all the components that allow the robot to move inside the pool. At this stage, it is necessary to manually check that everything rotates freely.

Next, the side covers must be opened to verify that every component is in good condition and does not require replacement.

Regarding pressure, the most common issue concerns the propeller, impeller, or filter. Check that the impeller does not contain debris, threads, or damage. Also verify that the filter is intact, not clogged, and does not need replacement.

Motor Unit

Once it has been verified that the correct voltage reaches the motor, thus excluding the power supply unit and cable as possible causes of the malfunction, it is necessary to intervene on the motor unit.

At this point, two solutions are available:

  • Replacement of the motor unit, if it is certain that the issue originates from it. In this case, installation must be carried out exclusively by specialized service centers to avoid voiding the manufacturer’s legal warranty.
  • Attempting to repair the motor unit by replacing the damaged internal component.

The second option is a very delicate operation and is not recommended for those without the necessary experience, as it can easily cause further damage up to complete failure of the unit. The most common causes involve water infiltrations due to improper sealing.

Internal repair is a process that must be performed by experienced technicians equipped with all the necessary tools and spare parts to ensure a safe and permanent restoration of the motor unit.

Repair

Once the components responsible for the malfunction, and therefore for the premature shutdown or failure to start, have been identified, the pool robot repair phase begins, meaning the inspection and replacement of all defective parts.

As already mentioned, this step is very delicate: if the parts supplied by the manufacturer are not installed correctly and by specialized personnel, the legal warranty may be voided.

It is essential to thoroughly verify that every element is in optimal condition, because worn or unchecked components could damage the new ones.

For example, if the traction components are compromised, they could place excessive stress on the newly installed motor and damage it, thus voiding its warranty.

For these reasons, it is important to rely on a trusted, serious, and reliable service center with positive and verified reviews. At MetodoBlu.com, we are committed to offering an excellent, affordable, and fast service.
